Rik Brookes Skateboarder Torso
2007-03-03
Richard 'Mr Riks' Brookes, Skateboarder, Graffiti / Artist, KTF, Graphic Designer and Photographer, This torso shot was as a result of me wanting to try some experimental lighting techniques at Rik's design studio he was renting in Bristol 05. Basically I needed some lumps and bumps to catch the light right, Rik is a very patient person and when I asked him to take his shirt off just said "yeh alright" and was more than happy to calmly stand there while I continually moved flashes, worked out f-stops and shutter speeds whilst having a mild outbreak of tourettes every time a slave flash didn't fire properly. It took me 4 Flashes and nearly a hundred shots to get the lighting exactly like this. I think it was worth it and in ten years time I know Rik will too. The reason Rik looks so cool in this shot, is because he is. Last week March 07 his home was broken in to and burgled three times, the first time the thieves took this season's stock of Tyme design sweatshirts and t-shirts, which he was really excited about getting back from the screen printers. The second time they took all his new power and hand tools that he had finally gotten up together for work. Then finally they came back and took his new Canon digital SLR camera that he had been saving for and bought two months before. Just so you know, I can testify that Rik's face was still as calm as it is here when he was telling me and he was still pretty excited about getting his new website online for the first time. This is one of my all-time favourite photographs from my collection because it is living proof that it takes more than a fit body to look this good. This is Riks site...
