Work this week…

Work this week consisted of repairing a bathroom in an upstairs flat that had flooded a ceiling in a chinese takeaway below, then replacing, re plasterboarding and replastering a water damaged ceiling to the chinese takeaway in Bishopston,.. My friend and flatmate Joe Day is an amazing talented builder and can run around on these stilts plastering like a circus performer.. just one slip on a dollop of plaster, then it is head and skull contact to shiny stainless steel commercial kitchen surfaces… but he didn’t.. Decided to pass by Victoria Park in Bath and meet my good friend Mark Mapstone, he was skating fantastically as usual just a few snapshots here..My canon g10 is not so great for action shots especially skateboarding but it can still tell a story..I sakted for the first time on a vert ramp for 2 + years and my knees just can not deal with the pain aghhh!

Old Rotten Trout…NO NO NO NO…

This one is for you…I wrote this one back in 2003ish

for it is in this place, trite and contrived
that Gods’ love is shown

“NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO”

No ducking, No diving, No running, No petting
No pushing, No acrobatics, No splashing, No forgetting
No parking, No entry, No photos, No fun
No Skateboarding on pavements
No cycling, No sun

No smoking, No standing, No talking, No speeding
No sex without condoms, No public breastfeeding
No room at the Inn, so go find a stable
there are 3 Kings and 3 Shepherds
so don’t lap dance on the table.

Say No to drugs, and spend No more money
No naughty jokes, even though PC ain’t funny
No tax evasion, No different persuasions
and you certainly cannot, think
outside the mainstations.

No trust and No love and No wonders why
overweight from fast food but No humble pie
we have all broken rules, now and again
I scored 2, you scored 9,
but the pass mark is 10

You better not judge me, you’ll reap what you sow
For the Lord has seen all, you kept out public show
No one is innocent, there are No clean paws.
I’ve been with the quiet ones, behind those closed doors.

See,
the forbidden fruit, is bad ’till you try some
then you become bad, and the words redefine ‘em
No becomes “No Way I’ll do what I want!”
and “Bad” now means “Good” as the rules we then flaunt

En Oh’s been played out, like a song overheard, so
change No to the”Know” a 4 letter word

My eyes did not notice, NO, when it was there
and I’ve always learnt the hardway
but  YES I still care.

Nakutaka

Feeling this flowing today, gonna share with you all its inspired by a bigger calm than I have yet known before,..

Nakutaka

And with every shade of amber
the light reached into the corners of winters wet dark loneliness
with every sound and tone of a calmness
a waking life as my spirit took a rest
blessed for real, every layer peeled, a brighter shade
so real, oh so real a stillness I could smell touch and feel
a stillness, still running from the surface to the core
this stillness, please forgive… yes please forgive me
I want more
feels like home but a home I have never known
existed in a fairytale
A disney story, jackanory full glory
wow this gift, I unwrapped a home,
I cannot address this space
lives along the road travelled to a calmer place
but the feelings were for real
and the perfume,..
a smell rising from my nose and now resting in my eyes
everywhere they look, a fragrance filling darker skies
a dream now projected, some errors corrected
and its playing in my day, simply will not go away
this calmness running deep, tucked up
feather quilted throws, in my arms to keep
the lord is my keeper, a shepherd with a hook
not a cute smile, wink and its look
but a rope draping from heaven
I will make you a fisherman of men
he said and with a net I have been caught
and this one cannot be bought
I have surfed into a safety net,
empty space, no longer up for let
feelings of a home together ready for filling
loves overflow abundant, now spilling
into the winters darkness
with a bridge to the light
no explanations, just feels right
hands now apart
telepathy switched on
please take a picture
so I did, as the swans watched on
and now I know in peace,
whether together
or on a path walked alone
this New year has shifted
and as the darkness has lifted
this calmness has  grown

Attempted murder last night…

Bristol is a city and it seems in the last month every wonderful place and moment I have experienced in this city has such a dark side. Ok let me explain

1. My friends and I went snowboarding in Ashton Court Xmas Day, a great day yet on the same day in the same place the police found the Dead Body of a woman who recently went missing I think her name is Leah Bates not sure, but she was dead for sure ..

2. Well last night as I was cycling home from a peaceful time relaxing in a sauna and spa with Paul and having been for a healthy Japanese meal I cycled back through the alleyways and back streets to where I am staying. However when maybe 500m from my house I encountered the roads all taped up with” police line do not cross” as i made a detour I was blocked by another road entrance and exit all taped up. The Policemen informed me there had been an attempted murder and I should find an alternative route. This is not pleasant but it is definitely happening all around and made me realise how City life really is in the UK. Only 4 weeks here and 1 murder and one attempted murder on the paths I am walking…within 5 miles of my house.

New Year round 2 day 2 dingaling aling….

After an eventful New years day, the 2nd day of 2011 was  an early start and a trip to Croyde with my friend Paul Morgan and two others. Paul is pictured snowboarding doing a jump in the blue jacket on my Xmas day post. However I must admit I was spectating and had absolutely no intention of entering into the freezing cold brownness that was full of black rubber clad  surfers scrabbling for waves. I found it challenging enough wandering about the rocks taking photos in about 3 jackets gloves, hoods and a woolly hat. Paul however is a legend,  mid 40s and has spent much of his time between life’s annoying bills and responsibilities on his surfboard, traveling the world , especially the surf breaks of Indonesia. Paul is always ready and willing for an adventure..and today’s adventure was gray, gloomy and wet as an English winter can be, and he could not wait to jump in with so many others…it looked like this…

Not so Happy New Year!…then happy then not so happy…

Xmas and New years seems to bring all kind of emotions in peoples worlds, and this year i was not spared, I have been back one month and was very fortunate to meet a special, intelligent, articulate and beautiful woman. As a result we spent some time getting to know each other. Unfortunately due to  reasons still unknown to me (possibly emotionally exacerbated by a week of festive drinking and hangovers on her side) we had a bust up 1 hour before midnight, not a good feeling. I salvaged midnight at a friends party and watched the amazing fireworks display over the London eye on a large flatter than flat widescreen HD tv. So afterwards feeling flatter than the TV screen I went home to sleep alone and managed about 4hrs sleep.  I was then woken up  by my good friend Joe giving his inebriated lectures and philosophies on life to a heap of crew partying in my flat. Then at  approx 9am  I decided to joined in the fun, A female I then recently met called up still rolling from the night before and asked if she could come and join in. As a result and an emotional sequence of events we ended up sharing New years day tucked up in bed together just chatting and taking it in turns choosing and listening to music on youtube. She also is another very wonderful however  peaceful and calm woman, I definitely found some peace and healing in her company after a traumatic evening.( I am still thanking God for my adventures which never cease to amaze me)

So now having had adult discussion with the first one and some apologies offered it seems however we are tentatively back together, this has upset the second because….., which has upset me, a little confused and bewildered how this all happened. Now  New Years day was full of every shade of peace, tranquility and calm tucked up and warm listening to peaceful music on youtube. And just now sitting here thinking and feeling about which way to steer this ship I want calm and not chaos. So as I type this I have decided I am more than probably gonna call it a day with the number one as the emotional chaos of her life is something I do not have the capacity and skill set to manage,Please No dramas here. I want  and need to let my head and heart settle.. Now number two has had enough of me behaving like a playboy in an old mans shell and I will probably lose out on all accounts here, but hey there is always PlentyofFish.com, (they know who they are)  My love life is as eventful as its ever been…I know I have serious issues here, happy to admit it and I am still working them out and do not claim any success at this stage. One thing however I have been reassured of looking at the state of my friends, is that staying away from drink and drugs over the festive period has allowed me some real calm in my spirit and life is still feeling good…love aside that is.

Bristol…colours

Ok so I have been in Indonesia 2 years and you do not see much graffiti, Bristol however is absolutely blitzed in spray can art adding so much character to a fully busy city. What looks like vandalism and chaos to some to others is actually a concrete canvas, absolutely overflowing with talent, attention to detail and beauty,,

especially on a snow filled day..

One Day and One night in Phuket…

Sat in Kuala Lumpur Starbucks now have 3 hours spare until my flight to Stanstead Airport. I purchased a warm jumper/jacket hoody combination yesterday as I have been warned on facebook that it is freezing in the UK now. My bloods thinned out a bit now and I even get cold in the air con rooms at 25 degrees, the Uk is about 2 degrees now.. Well I arrived in Phuket yesterday afternoon managed to check into an affordable room for the night near Patong Beach, took a few photos of what caught my eye. I saw people moving and ret ransplanting trees with a crane, this was my life 2 weeks ago. Also I saw boys on mopeds towing two jet skis at a time on what looked like home made racks. This was inspiring as in all the surf videos jetskis are always towed behind hulking great 4 by 4s and Hilux pick up trucks. Now I know you can tow one to the beach on a moped, when I return to Indonesia again I think this is definitely on trhe cards, start surfing some bigger waves!!!!

No sign of any swell in Phuket but a great beach, mellow vibes and great sunset silhouttes. Every body speaks badly of Phuket proclaiming how busy and touristic it is. Well first impressions here is that it seems like a cross between Bangkok on the beach and Kuta Bali.. Lots of pretty women asking you if you want a massage, and lots of girls dancing on tables, poles and go go bars with next to no clothes on.. People say in Phuket one night out is enough and I am sure it is if you are planning a trip to some idyllic Thai Beach to sit back relax and go snorkelling on. Well one night it wasnt quite enough for me knowing in 12 hours I will be stuck in a traffic jam down the M4 in the cold and rain… Phuket; sunsets, beers, grilled lobsters and prawns, bars, dancing girls, neon lights, backlit nights, short skirts and high heels abound,..happy endings, rub and a tug, job done and we shall wait until the next time!

So here are a few snapshots of a Phuket moment…

Mai Thai Boxing Koh Lanta..

Met a nice Thai woman in restaurant in Koh Lanta last night and we got to spend some time together for a few nights which was fun, I cannot believe how friendly and open Asian women are in comparison to my experiences in other worldwide locations. Well for my last night because my brother advertises Moons Massage ringside at Koh Lanta Mai Thai Boxing he has some free tickets so all 3 of us went for a night out to watch the boxing. This was my first time and we watched all the weight divisions, Prae used to train Mai Thai and really likes it so she was pleased. Unfortunately the light was super low so no good photos from the event as my small Canon G10 cannot perform too well under such circumstances. Also are a few photos from my last breakfast with them both..

Splat,….

Last night me and my brother were playing pool in the Sari Club then Crash, Bang Wallop, one of the Swedish men leaving the bar pulled out on his motorbike straight in to a local going full speed on the main road, the result a whole heap of blood streaming out the poor mans head across the road. 2 riders yet no helmets here and whole heap of crowd stating Im a nurse, Im a doctor so he was pretty lucky. There are a lot of trained responsible divers here from Sweden and this local man was well taken care of until the ambulance men arrived and literally dragged him with out a care in the world onto a plastic stretcher and threw him on the loading deck of a Toyota Hilux. Which he then immediately rolled off as they closed the tailgate, if he didnt have a neck or spine injury they will no doubt make sure he does by the time they have driven him to the hospital. Life is cheap here. Regarding helemets, where possible I probably still will not wear one as it is great to feel the wind on a bald head! but it makes you realise how life is very fragile at full speed,

This is what happens when your head cracks the tarmac at full speed...

Klong Nin, Krabi, Thailand

Well I am in Thailand now Krabi province on the island of Koh Lanta, my third time here. It has been the home of my brother and sister for many years so I try and visit them when I can.

So today and for the last 3 days I have been staying at small little home stay called Jai Dee Home on the beach 15m from the waters edge,. I previously stayed here a year and a half ago during low season, mid Julyish I think, this time it is November and the start of high season, It is still relaxed and a pleasant end to my trip of 2 years in Asia. When possible I have been relaxing  and hanging out with my brother Nathan and his daughter (quick note to those of you who know Nathan, he and his daughter seem to be 5 kilos heavier every time I see them, he is slowly turning into an oversized ox) however he is happy and all appears good on his end. I have been playing pool a bit in the evenings and that is about it. I have seen Natalie my sister and had a few drinks with her partner Ian Tiltman whom I have known since high school.

The schedule is; I have to fly from Phuket to Kuala Lumpur on the 29th and spend two days there as it was cheaper to fly from Phuket to KL than Krabi  to KL.

I am looking forward to visiting Phukets internationally renowned red light district for a colourful stroll one evening soon hopefully to practice some short skirt and low light photography! as this kind of eye candy is rare in Bristol in Dec, if it turns out to be a success then pictures soon,..

OK, To be honest for the last month I have often woken up in the early hours of the night in a cold sweat because;

1.I know England is freezing cold now, I will be returning to a situation of;  being single whilst most of my remaining friends are in long term relationships,  no job, economic downturn, talk of recession and house prices blah blah, no waves, no sun, wind and lots of rain and a whole plethora of overweight pale women with attitude that will not even return a friendly smile!!!

So Phuket is going to be a little treat of female eye candy before I return as I have been told its full of short skirted high heeled Thai women, an abundance of  go go bars and perverted old caucasian men looking for some love in return for money. This sounds similar to Sukhumvit Road and Nana Entertainment Plaza  in Bangkok. Well that seems like good enough menu for a night out knowing what I will be experiencing once i have returned back to the UK in less than a week. In Bristol the only place i know to meet a fit woman is the adult gymnastics class. So to any women that are choosing to take offence here, please do not judge me as you read this because one; I am still single and two; honestly your boyfriend if he was left alone for long enough would probably be exactly the same.. and Asia caters to the truth of this.

I make no apologies for my simple existence,  I really know what I like in life, staying personally fit, strong and lean, eating well, surfing, skateboarding, motorbikes, sun, sea and sex with a willing beautiful fit woman with the dream of a loving relationship one day. I make no apologies for this and will happily accept all peoples judgement and criticism. I like to photograph as much of this as I can and thank God for my life so far. Previously I tried marriage, two point two children a house with a mortgage, a loft yearly filling up with worthless junk from the past and a partner with ever increasing social and financial aspirations. Thanks but no thanks and to all my friends and acquaintances living this way I HOPE IN ALL HONESTY YOUR HEART IS NOT CRYING BEHIND THE SOCIAL SMILES..

I want to always be honest and keep it real along this path and write about the things I have learnt…

FEAR!!!

I get scared now approaching 40 and I get scared of remaining in the UK with a mortgage, an overdraft and a heap of credit. Somehow in a relationship where sex every day for the first six months turns into sex once every two weeks on a Saturday morning. Sitting on a sofa with the control of my life as remote as the self control of what I daily consume. Then watching your and my partners waistlines expand as the bank balance decreases. Add to this the continual and constant friction about time, careers, interest rates, house prices, money money money and this is the recipe for hell on earth as I know it. I am scared of this life and I want to share that with you all.
